Character Respond, Answer, Ask (November Edition)

  • @Blackbird

Usually, I wouldn't advise people to come to Valcrest, but... You guys actually seem to have it a bit worse in some aspects. So... Yeah, you should. >.>

Arial: Maybe I'll try to visit sometime.

    You don't say. :|

Ceamath: I do say. Have you seen some of the people that have ended up married?

Arial: They say it's what's on the inside that counts.

Ceamath: I prefer aesthetic pleasure, to be clear.

I shall hold true to my word and say nothing to Kyle. I will say that it is pleasing to see a trend of swearing among adolescents declining. I will also say that one day Gerald is going to stop allowing other people to use him as a human shield.

Q: How would you describe your hairstyle? Do you like it or do you sometimes think about changing?

    William: frowns

Ceamath: It's luxurious and soft. runs hand through hair

Arial: My hairstyle can be described as... unobstructive? As in, it doesn't get in my face very much?

William: ...short? My hair is short?

Ceamath: I've spent a lot of time getting my hair to this level of perfection. Wavy, blonde, never tangled, even if I've just run a mile.

Arial: Are you trying to convince me to buy something?

Ceamath: I'm just trying to say that I would never change perfection.

Adaellae: straight face You feel strongly for your hair.

    Ceamath: ...

Adaellae: straight face It might be a shame if something happened to it.

    Ceamath: ...

William: I guess short isn't really a hairstyle, it's just how my hair looks? Can someone confirm?

Adaellae: straight face Luckily, I don't happen to have any scissors near me.

Ceamath: ... grabs Arial's arm and pulls her up beside Ceamath I have a body guard.

Arial: pulls arm free and walks back where she was standing + 3 yards for good measure You two can handle your own dispute.

Ceamath: looks at Arial You've betrayed me.

Arial: You give me some money, maybe I'll think about volunteering to save your soft as silk hair.

Ceamath: Soft as silk. I'm going to write that one down.

Adaellae: straight face It won't always be soft as silk.

    Ceamath: ...ariaaaallll!

    Arial: :|

William: I guess I'll just say that I haven't really thought about whether or not I like my hair or whether or not I want to change it. I... I don't really think about my hair at all, to be honest.

Id'en: I would describe my hairstyle as easy to maintain. Partially because its short, and partially because there's not very much. Nope, I like my hair just fine; and no, I don't really think about changing it.

Q: If you had to pick between answering a relatively tricky math question (based upon your level of mathematical knowledge) or writing a relatively tough essay (based upon your level of writing skill), which would you choose?

  • @typical_demigod

I will also say that one day Gerald is going to stop allowing other people to use him as a human shield.

Yes. One day he will, actually. :|

Your people are very practical about their hair.

    Well most of them. :P

Gabrielle: pulls out a pair of scissors "I'm just going to leave this lying around here... For no reason whatsoever."

    Arial: :|

Gerald needs to take 'not being used as a shield' lessons from Arial. :P

Q: How would you describe your hairstyle? Do you like it or do you sometimes think about changing?

    Gabrielle: "Why?"

    I'm curious. shrug

Gabrielle: "I like my hair, I don't want to change it or I would have. That's all I have to say about it."

    Johanna: "Gabe's hair is pretty!"

    Gabrielle: "Please stop."

    Johanna: ^.^

Gabrielle: "Jo... Really likes my hair."

Gerald: "Well, it is pretty good looking hair, Porter, I gotta say."

    Gabrielle: >.>

Gerald: "Are you..." blinks "Are you actually blushing?"

    Gabrielle: :|

    Gerald: snort

Gabrielle: "Let's just move this along please." >.>

Sebastian: "You know, never noticed it until now, but your hair is pretty long."

    Gabrielle: "And?"

    Sebastian: "It's unpractical."

Gabrielle: sigh "Yes, I know. Look, I like long hair. It was a lot shorter when I was younger because; as you said, it's unpractical, but I decided to grow it out after I was on my own. Can we drop this subject now?"

Gerald: snort "You are such a girl, Porter!"

Gabrielle: "Not as much as you, but yes. I never denied that I am."

    Gerald: chuckle

Gabrielle: "Stop giggling and answer the question." =.=

Gerald: "Messy. I think my hair is messy. I don't comb it, nearly ever. And it gets awfully curly when it's longer." runs fingers through his hair and the longer strands immediately curl up when released "So I don't like to let it get too long." shrug

Johanna: "It's not as pretty as Gabe's." shrug

Gabrielle: :| "Your hair is pretty."

Johanna: "It's boring. And I don't do much with it." shrug "I cut it shorter sometimes. When it's hot."

Gerald: "Pft. You have beautiful hair."

    Johanna: blushes uncontrollably and flees

Gerald: "I need to stop saying nice things to people today." :|

Gabrielle: "Really. It's almost as if you're not the complete jerk we thought you were."

    Gerald: "Won't happen again." nods

Sebastian: "When we got here, Jo cut our hair the same. And Kyle was unhappy about that."

Kyle: "I like my hair longer. So I grew it out a bit." runs fingers through one of the longer strands "It's almost to my shoulders now and I think that's fine."

Sebastian: "I let Jo trim mine to where she wants, I don't mind." shrug "Easier to groom and all that."

Dani: "I don't do much with my hair other than keeping it clean and brushing it in the morning. So, I dunno about 'style'. It's long and a bit wavy; sort of like mom." ^.^

Lena: "You definitely have mom's hair. Only a bit less wavy."

Dani: "I kinda wish it was just straight like yours. Seems like less of a hassle overall. My hair gets stupid frizzy sometimes. Yours is all pretty and smooth." -.-

Lena: "I don't know what to tell you, I don't do anything with my hair." pause "I sure as heck am not changing it."

Dani: "You're thinking about that time you cut it short?"

Lena: "That was a mistake." -.-

Dani: "I looked good on you."

Lena: "Nah. I don't like it short. Never again."

Sarah: "I wanna cut my hair short one day."

Dani: "Aaw, but you have such pretty hair."

Sarah: "It'll be just as pretty short." nods

Dani: pause "I wish I had this kid's confidence." -.-

Q: If you had to pick between answering a relatively tricky math question (based upon your level of mathematical knowledge) or writing a relatively tough essay (based upon your level of writing skill), which would you choose?

Gabrielle: "The essay. It'd probably take less time and while I'm not terrible at math, I don't enjoy it to any extent."

    Gerald: "The essay."

Gabrielle: "That'll give you the opportunity to put that fancy handwriting to use." nods

Gerald: "I regret saying nice things about your hair."

    Gabrielle: "Good."

Johanna: "I don't want to." crosses arms

Sebastian: "Math. It requires less thinking than an essay."

    Kyle: "WHAT? In what Universe?"

Sebastian: "All of them. Math is an exact science, Kyle. It's not subjective. Writing is."

Kyle: "I'll take the essay any time. No. Screw that."

    Dani: "Math."

    Lena: "Essay."

Sarah: "I'm bad at math. But I'm not sure what an essay... Is...?"

Lena: "You basically write about a particular topic."

Sarah: "Oh. I can do that!"

Dani: "I'm sure you can." :)

Q: What is the one thing you would like to be remembered for after your death?

  • @Blackbird

Your people are very practical about their hair.
    Well most of them. :P
Gabrielle: pulls out a pair of scissors "I'm just going to leave this lying around here... For no reason whatsoever."

Ceamath: Yes, well, who has the prettiest hair of us all?

William: Is it? Is it me?

Arial: You didn't even know what to call your hair and now your an expert on rating it?

William: Do you have an issue with me today? Also, you saw me struggling and you didn't even help. You just listened to me in my struggle.

Adaellae: picks up pair of scissors Huh. I wonder what can be done with these.

    Arial: I'm leaving. walks out

Gerald needs to take 'not being used as a shield' lessons from Arial. :P

Arial: I'm always willing to help a friend in need.

William: raises hand I can vouch against that.

Gerald: "Are you..." blinks "Are you actually blushing?"

    raises eyebrow mm-hmm...

Sarah: "It'll be just as pretty short." nods
Dani: pause "I wish I had this kid's confidence." -.-

    Everyone needs Sarah's confidence.

Gabrielle: "That'll give you the opportunity to put that fancy handwriting to use." nods

    Good.

Q: What is the one thing you would like to be remembered for after your death?

Arial: Being a person you could count on.

Ceamath: You sound like you've rehearsed this.

Arial: shrugs It's something I've been working on, reliability.

    William: I wouldn't say you're unreliable :/

Arial: I wouldn't say you know me very well.

Ceamath: I would like to be remembered for being

Adaellae: The only woman who could sleep with everyone in Wakegloom's court three times?

Ceamath: Well, I haven't done that, but also

    Adaellae: A blood lusting murderer?

Ceamath: D: I'm not blood lusting. looks to Arial and William for support

    William: :|

Arial: I'm not getting involved in this.

Adaellae: Personally, I'm going to be remembered as Wakegloom's--

Ceamath: Most aggressive high priestess in history? There is no reason for you to treat me the way you do.

    Adaellae: raises eyebrows

    Ceamath: you know it's true.

Adaellae: As I was saying, as Wakegloom's fortieth high priestess. Not bad.

William: I'm just want to be remembered as a good person.

Id'en: Maybe I'll be remembered as someone who helped influence society for the good, ultimately.

Q: Is pineapple on pizza acceptable to you?

  • @typical_demigod

Ceamath: Yes, well, who has the prettiest hair of us all?

    Johanna: "Gabe."

Gabrielle: "I'm serious. Stop. Also I think when she said 'us' she just meant them."

    Johanna: "Still you."

Gabrielle: sigh "That statement defies logic."

    Johanna: shrugs

Adaellae: Personally, I'm going to be remembered as Wakegloom's--
Ceamath: Most aggressive high priestess in history? There is no reason for you to treat me the way you do.
    Adaellae: raises eyebrows
    Ceamath: you know it's true.
Adaellae: As I was saying, as Wakegloom's fortieth high priestess. Not bad.

Honestly, I think being known as the most aggressive high priestess in history sounds pretty cool. You should strive for that.

Id'en: Maybe I'll be remembered as someone who helped influence society for the good, ultimately.

    I hope you do. :|

Q: Is pineapple on pizza acceptable to you?

Gabrielle: "I don't like it, but it doesn't offend me."

Gerald: "Depends on what else is on it."

    Johanna: "Yes."

    Sebastian: "Yes."

Kyle: "Absolutely not. Fruit on pizza should be considered a crime."

Sebastian: "You do realize tomatoes are actually fruit, right?"

Kyle: "You know what I mean."

Dani: "I like it depending on what else is on it."

Lena: "I put raisins on pizza once."

Dani: "... I'm disowning you. You're no longer my sister."

Lena: snort "I was kidding. Twins' sake."

    Sarah: "I'd... Eat that."

Lena: "We can do it for real if you want."

    Sarah: "Yes!"

    Dani: looks utterly betrayed o_o

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

  • @Blackbird Just accept the compliment, Gabrielle. It's okay.

Honestly, I think being known as the most aggressive high priestess in history sounds pretty cool. You should strive for that.

Adaellae: Yes, well, high priestesses aren't meant to be aggressive. The ones that are aggressive are usually violently removed from history. That's simply not what I'd like to strive for.

Ceamath: Too bad that's where you're at.

Adaellae: I have many people who would vouch otherwise for me, in fact.

Don't let her lie to you. Adaellae is extreme. There are lines she won't cross, but they are few and far between.

Why are your people so extreme about food they don't like? XD

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Arial: A farmer. The soldier thing was kind of a last minute decision.

William: I don't know. What I wanted changed weekly.

Ceamath: I wanted to either be a rodeo star or a queen.

    Arial: Why not both?

    Ceamath: o_o

Arial: It was just a suggestion.

Ceamath: I never thought of it before.

William: I thought you thought of everything.

Ceamath: This my new life goal.

Arial: Glad to be of service...?

Ceamath wants to be Rodeo Queen. nod I hope that works out for her.

Adaellae: As a child, I distinctly remember wanting to be a bookmaker or a librarian when I was growing up.

    Id'en: What happened?

Adaellae: I decided to change the world and become a high priestess. So, I came to Wakegloom, and I've been here ever since.

    Id'en: Huh.

Adaellae: What did you want to be, then?

Id'en: I wanted to be like my father when I grew up. It worked for a while, too.

Q: Imagine you get to a restaurant you love, but you've come for a specific item on the menu. You find out from the waiter that they are out of the item that you came for. Do you leave the restaurant, or order something else?

  • @typical_demigod

Why are your people so extreme about food they don't like? XD

Dani: "We live in a society where chocolate is a commodity, okay? It's pricey, it's hard to find, getting it once in a while is a privilege. And expecting chocolate chips and finding raisins is traumatic." >.>

Lena: "I never said it was chocolate. I just asked if you wanted a bite off my muffin."

Dani: "It looked like chocolate!!!" >.<

Lena: "You need to go calm down."

Dani: "I'm perfectly calm. I'm just saying. Some clarification would have been nice." >.>

    I 100% support this.

Q: Imagine you get to a restaurant you love, but you've come for a specific item on the menu. You find out from the waiter that they are out of the item that you came for. Do you leave the restaurant, or order something else?

Gabrielle: "I'm not a picky eater."

Gerald: "I've never gone out to eat because I wanted to go to this place to eat this one thing. It's always been more like I was traveling and there was a place with a food along the way." shrug

    Johanna: "No."

    Gerald: "No what?"

    Johanna: "I've never gone."

Gerald: "You've never eaten at an Inn or another place like that?"

    Johanna: "No."

    Gerald: "Huh."

    Sebastian: "I never have either."

Kyle: "Well, we couldn't afford it." shrug

Gerald: "If you do well enough in training I'll bring you with me to Newhaven."

    Sebastian: "Really?"

Gerald: "Yes. If you stop slacking and make some real progress."

    Kyle: "Slacking? When?"

Gerald: "I could make a list. Would you like me to make you a list, boy?"

    Kyle: "...No, sir." >.>

Dani: "I never go anywhere, but hypothetically I'd just pick something else. I'm not a picky eater unless it's something I hate. Like raisins." >.>

Lena: siiigh "I dunno. I've only ever eaten here or at one of the Inns. And it's not anything fancy. The options on the menu are basically just 'take it' or 'leave it'." shrug

Emmett: "Hypothetically I'd probably leave and go eat at home. I'm not going to spend money on something I don't actually want."

Eldric: "I'd eat whatever. I'm already there." shrug

Q: How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

  • @Blackbird

You're accusing raisins of purposely traumatizing you when you didn't even stop to clarify before taking a bite? smh

    I 100% support this.

    Ceamath: nods Thank you.

tbh this thread has been very helpful for figuring out how to end character arcs. Got 2 character arcs figured out, got two others sketched out. Good stuff.

What was your father like, then?

Id'en: He... He wasn't what I thought he was. And it took me a long time to figure that out, that what I was chasing was a fake ideal. It was just... the stereotypical stuff. Honest, kind, successful.

    Johanna: "No."
    Gerald: "No what?"
    Johanna: "I've never gone."
Gerald: "You've never eaten at an Inn or another place like that?"
    Johanna: "No."
    Gerald: "Huh."

...which number is this on your list of fluff prompts?

Q: How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

    William: ...

    Ceamath: squints

    Arial: Do people celebrate birthdays?

William: What do I get from other people in this celebration?

    Ceamath: I'm guessing their company?

Arial: WHO WANTS TO GET A TATTOO WITH ME?

William: leans away even though they're not particularly close Maybe. Is it your birthday?

Arial: ...technically my birthday is sometime in the middle of spring, but I've missed twenty-some-odd birthday celebrations at this point, so I think it's okay if we do it now.

William: What are we going to get?

Arial: I need to do some conceptualizing first. You can help with that. I feel like it needs to be something that defines me.

William: Well it needs to be small and something that would look nice on a forearm.

Arial: looks at her own forearm Well I have more space on my forearm, so I might do something wrapping around. That could be cool.

William: D: Where am I going to wrap something around??? I already did that!

    Ceamath: On both arms?

William: Well, only on one, but the back of my other arm isn't exactly blank, either. pulls up sleeves

Ceamath: Huh. You should have more color.

William: What am I supposed to do, go back and time and tell Adaer "hey, maybe you should be more colorful"?

Ceamath: For the sake of aesthetic, yes.

William: Well maybe if she didn't have a bitch for a sister, she would be more colorful.

Adaellae: I can't believe I actually saved you from death.

William: It's true and you know it.

    Adaellae:

    William:

Arial: Anyway, if someone has some paper, I'm ready to start thinking about mine. William, where do you want this tattoo?

William: Right there. points at spot on arm

Arial: We can make it red or something so people can actually see it.

William: The only thing I'm worried about is people will think our relationship is different than it is, since it would be so prominent. :/

    Arial: We'll make it purple.

    William: Better, better... :/

Arial: We'll become enemies and spread confusion everywhere you go.

William: ooh. Viable idea. We'll have to get you one so we both spread confusion.

    Arial: Good plan. Any ideas?

William: No? You're supposed to be ideaing, not me.

    Arial: huffs

Adaellae: I'd like to celebrate my birthday in the company of friends. Friends who understand the importance of perspective in mythology and know that Adaer was the bitch.

William: I would literally stab you for saying that.

    Adaellae: Adaer. Was. The.

    Id'en: Let's not stab anyone?

William: Who has a knife for me to borrow?

TL;DR: Adaer and Maim are sisters. In a competition, Adaer created humans, Maim created monsters. The gods were like "wow humans are pretty cool. Maim yours are okay." Feuding ensued.

Q: Do you like birds? Any particular types you like/dislike?

Lena: "They're assholes. I like them, but they're assholes."

Eldric: "I wanted to buy a falcon, but my father said I couldn't have one."

    Emmett: "Birds are okay."

    Q: Do you like hugs?

  • @Blackbird

    Do people not celebrate birthdays?

    William: No?

Arial: I mean, we do now. sketching

Ceamath: It's an interesting idea, I give it that much.

Do tattoo colors have any significance or is just how much it stands out? ^.-

William: How much it stands out.

I could go as far as making tattoo colors have significance, but wow that's a lot of effort. It's more like schools having colors. A group of colors is more likely to be associated with a certain god or idea, but a color in itself doesn't usually have any individual meaning.

Gabrielle: casually pulls a knife from her belt "Again, just gonna leave this lying around. No reason. Just in case."

    Gabrielle: "Soap."

Arial: nods Just the threat is working, I see.

Ah, Kyle, what would you do without your loving brother?

    Q: Do you like hugs?

Arial: I can live without them.

William: It depends whose giving them. You know, like, if Arial or Ceamath gave me a hug, that'd be awkward--

    Arial: holds up hand Seconded.

William: --but if it was, I dunno, my mother, that's not awkward. That's likable.

    Ceamath: aww, a mama's boy.

    William: I mean. I guess?

Ceamath: waves hand It's alright, moms are lovable. I'm not making fun of you.

    Adaellae: My mother wasn't lovable.

    Ceamath: Big deal.

    William: What happened with her?

Adaellae: I'm not sure if you care, after threatening to stab me for speaking the truth.

William: :| I'm still willing to do that.

Arial: Not unless you're cleaning up the body and scrubbing the blood off these floors.

Id'en: I don't mind hugs. I don't often give them out, but I don't mind accepting them from others.

Adaellae: I quite like hugs, actually.

Ceamath: I might give you one, but you'd think I was trying to stab you in the back.

    Adaellae: Are you?

    Ceamath: Maybe.

Arial: You better not stab her unless you're actually cleaning the body up.

Ceamath: waves hand Darling, I would never actually stab anyone. I can't afford blood on this dress.

Q: If given the opportunity, would you get a tattoo? What would it be?

Ah, Kyle, what would you do without your loving brother?

Kyle: "For starters, I'd have one less thing to complain about."

Sebastian: "Dead people can't complain." pause "And that's what you'd be without me." thumbs up

Kyle: =.= "True, but still... shut up."

    Sebastian: "Nah, I don't think I will." :)

    Adaellae: My mother wasn't lovable.
    Ceamath: Big deal.
    William: What happened with her?
Adaellae: I'm not sure if you care, after threatening to stab me for speaking the truth.

Can I know? I did no such thing. >.>

If someone gets stabbed would it really be Arial's job to clean that up or is she exaggerating? ^.-

Ceamath: waves hand Darling, I would never actually stab anyone. I can't afford blood on this dress.

The White Shadows could make so much money with that "easy to wash the blood off" fabric of theirs. :P

Q: If given the opportunity, would you get a tattoo? What would it be?

    Gabrielle: "No."

Gerald: "If something, or someone, else is significant enough that I'd want a reminder permanently etched on my skin, I'd consider it. I don't know what it'd be."

Johanna: "Maybe? Gerry's is pretty." ^.^

    Gerald: "What would you get?"

    Johanna: "Hourglass?"

Gerald: "Why are you asking me? I can't decide for you."

Johanna: "Hourglass. Or... Moon and stars."

Gerald: "Sounds very doable." nods "I know a guy."

    Johanna: "Maybe one day." smiles

Sebastian: "I don't think I'd want one. No." shrug

Kyle: "Maybe, if I can think of a design I'd want."

    Dani: mumbles

    Lena: "What's that?"

    Dani: "I don't like needles."

Lena: "Oh. I... Maybe I'd get one."

Eldric: "No. It's a permanent body modification. One that people could use to identify you."

Lena: "It doesn't have to be in a visible area."

Eldric: "What would be the point then?"

Lena: sigh "If I have to explain, then you're not old enough to know."

    Emmett: snort

    Eldric: "What are you...Oh." :|

    Sarah: "I don't get it."

Lena: "You're too young for tattoos anyway."

Sarah: "What am I not too young for?" pouts

    Dani: "Cookies."

Sarah: "I'm okay with that then." nods

    Q: What's your favorite dessert?
